Welcome to Puerto Vallarta, we are sure that you will have a great vacation. The purpose of this section is to provide you with basic information you may need.

  • Currency and Prices:
  • Prices are usually marked in Pesos [$ is the symbol] although the US dollar is widely accepted [US$ for dollars]. Of course credit cards are also widely accepted throughout Puerto Vallarta.

  • Money Exchange:
  • Banks are located throughout town and most open between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ATM's are open 24 hrs. and accept North American bank & credit cards. Casas de Cambio [money exchange offices] are very common, they are open for longer hours and on weekends.

  • Phoning Home:
  • International phone calls from Mexico are expensive. The cheapest alternative is to make long distance calls from pay phones, many of which accepted international calling calls, or the Ladatel Telmex cards that you can purchase in most drugstores [farmacias]. However although more expensive, your hotel operator can save you all that hassle.

  • Safety:
  • Puerto Vallarta is safer than just about any U.S. town of the same size. It even has a special tourist police in the downtown and resort areas. These bilingual officers, dressed in white, with white pith helmets of black baseball caps are here to assist the tourists.

  • Transportation:
  • Puerto Vallarta city buses serve downtown, the northern hotel zone and Marina Vallarta. Bus stops are located every two to three blocks and are generally marked with a blue and white sign. The destination generally marked on the windshield of the bus with white shoe polish!

There is also regular service to Nuevo Vallarta but the stops are less frequent ñ the ones across the Maritime Terminal are the most accessible.
